PC/COMPUTER - "Why is Web Browsing So Slow?" - Part I

Your web experience can be hindered by slow web browsing and page uploading. This week I'll address the issue of "Why is Web Browsing So Slow?" I'll go through a few steps which can guarantee quicker web browsing.

  • Restart you computer.
  • clear your temporary files cache.
  • Get rid of unused files and folders in you're My Documents and Desktop.
  • Clean your hard drive.
  • Defrag your disk
  • Download the latest version of your web browser.

Detailed Instructions:

Step 1
As a start lets restart your computer.

Step 2
Now let's clear your temporary internet cache. The temporary internet cache stores all information regarding the sites you've visited. When you go back to these sites the files are still in your cache to improve the speed of the site's upload time. It's just like if you were moving to a new place and furniture and stuff was already in the house waiting for you. Makes the whole process easier and you don't have to move lots of stuff. Well with your cache you just have to go to a site and the next time you go back…stuff will be waiting for you. The only problem is that this folder or your temporary internet cache can fill up over time and slow things down. So we need to purge and refresh this folder from time to time.

I recommend once per week to eliminate any problems like slow down. When you view lots of video, audio and large picture files on the web this can cause a quicker slow down.

To get to your temporary internet cache folder and clear it out simply go to your explorer menu and click:

Tools > Options

After you've selected options you'll notice the "Internet Options" window appears. Each Browser version is different so your view may be different. Select "Browsing History" and then select "Delete". This will clean out all temporary web files.

Step 3
Next, we want to remove any thing that will additionally slow you down. Get rid of unused, un needed, duplicate and redundant files on your desktop and my documents. If you have a 40 Gb hard drive and 30 Gb in unused files and folders that is a waist of space. Get rid of the files by putting them on an external drive or save them to CD-R or DVD-R.

Step 4

Clean your disk once per month. Or even more for better performance!

To get to your disk clean feature in windows (mac N/A)

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Clean Up

Next a series of questions will appear

Note that you can work while the disk clean is working!

Step 5

Let's further optimize performance and speed of not only web browsing but your computer in general. You should defragment your hard drive every 3-6 months. This will greatly improve how you hard drive operates and open things a lot quicker.

To get to your defragmenter tool from your menu bar simply click:
start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter
Click Defragmenter and you may continue to work while defragmenting!

Step 6
Additionally, having the latest version of your browser might not hurt. Google search for the latest version of your browser.
